Israel, Hamas, The Gaza Strip... the saga continues

Again... I can't help but stay glued to the television for the latest updates on what's happening half way around the world. War is terrible and in the end it doesn't matter who won the battle. The losses encurred during the fight is immeasurable.

I feel both Hamas and Israel should cease fire for 24 hours so the people of Gaza can evacuate. I understand that leaflets were released over Gaza, warning the civilians that they had so many hours to evacuate. But given the amount of people in that small area... they should be given another chance. And... for all those Nations worldwide that oppose the Gaza Conflict... they should host refugee camps for the Palestinians seeking shelter from the crisis. After the 24 hour evacuation cease fire expires... Israel and Hamas can continue to bombard one another.

I don't think the world has taken a look at history and the bigger picture of how this crisis came about. I mean... for years and years the people of Israel have lived in a war zone. Always on the defensive... living with the fear of attack from neighboring countries. I mean... suicide bombers here and there... a few rockets or missiles there. It's a no brainer as to why Israel would take the offensive - defensive stance with Hamas. But it still doesn't make it right that innocent civilians are harmed.

The funny thing is... I never heard such an outcry or plee to help the innocent civilians when the United States went into Iraq or even Afghanistan. I didn't see picket lines or signs and people protesting for the innocent civilians in those countries. Not to mention a world wide protest... not at this proportion. I can't say that there hasn't been any protest at all regarding the US presence in the Middle East... because there is. I'm just saying not at this proportion.

On another note... the United States can't step in or side one way or another. America was attacked by terroists in September 2001. After that attack... the US moved in on Afghanistan and Iraq... waging war against terroism. The US can't condemn Israel for its actions... when they themselves did the same thing. The only thing I see that both Israel and the US could do now... is to negotiate with nearby countries to extend their humanitarian hospitality for those Palestinians that wish to escape Gaza at this time. Again... I refer back to my suggestion for them to extend a 24 hour cease fire period so that the people of Gaza will have a chance to flee. At the end of the 24 hour cease fire period... Hamas and Israel may continue as they wish.

But that's just my opinion... ;oP
